Introducing Pickles

This is Pickles who arrived at our house today after a very long journey from South Dakota. She was one of the main mothers at a Puppy Mill that was raided on September 2, 2009. Nearly a year later, she is now at a foster home and up for adoption in Texas. When the raid happened, she was pregnant and she had her puppies at a safe house in South Dakota two days later. Since, she has been living in barn and been having medical treatment of ear infections and other abrasions which clearly show a significant level of abuse from the puppy mill. She came to us with a little bit of medication for her ears, but her sores have largely healed and her fur is back after being nearly bald due to stress. As the photos show, she seems happy and still has love for humans even though she has every reason to be skeptical. She is about 5-6 years old and we are sure the second half of her life will be more pleasant than the first.
Pickles is intelligent as she has adjusted well to our pack today. She is tagging along with Magellan who is the nicest dog in our group. They have been seeking lizards and other animals in the yard together. She has mainly avoided Laz. She has sucked up a couple times to Moses which is smart because his huge ego loves being stroked. Having another dog temporarily joining the pack is stressful for all of us, but considering what Pickles has been though, we can deal with a little insecurity to help a sweet being.
